Event Description

Join us for an afternoon adventure through The Preserve, a breathtaking 963-acre coastal forest spanning Old Saybrook, Essex, and Westbrook. Once the largest unprotected coastal forest between Boston and New York, this natural treasure was conserved in 2015 after years of dedicated efforts.

Herpetologist Dennis Quinn will lead the way as we discover vibrant ephemeral flowers and fascinating amphibians in and around The Preserve’s many vernal pools and bogs, the places these creatures call home. Reptiles and amphibians are especially active in spring. (Learn more about Dennis Quinn at www.ctherpetology.com). This hike is perfect for nature lovers ages 9 and older—kids especially will love the wildlife discoveries!

After the hike, gather with us at Myrcene Ale Company (39 Ragged Rock Rd, Old Saybrook) to unwind and share stories from the trail. Bring your curiosity and sense of adventure for a day in nature you won’t forget!

  • Important details: Old Saybrook parking is **across the street** from the mailbox at 231 Ingham Hill Road. This event is family-friendly for kids ages 9 and older, but dogs are not allowed. Rain Date: Sunday, May 4, 2-4pm.

Space on the hike is limited; sign up below to save your spot!
