Friends of Auerfarm Scenic Reserve

Auerfarm State Park Scenic Reserve in Bloomfield is Connecticut’s newest State Park, officially joining the state park system in December, 2014. The Park is the result of a gift of 40 acres to the State by Elizabeth Schiro, granddaughter of Beatrice Fox Auerbach. The Park is somewhat unique in that Ms. Schiro also donated a conservation easement to CFPA in order to protect certain uses and restrictions at the Park forever.

This Park features great views of the Metacomet ridgeline in Bloomfield and Simsbury, is located only minutes away from Hartford, and is nestled next to the 4-H Education Center at Auerfarm, a well-known local draw for community events, family programs, and agricultural activities. Visit here to see the close connections between the Park and nearby open spaces (noted on the map as the State Park Scenic Reserve).

With start-up support provided by the Richard P. Garmany Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, CFPA hosted meetings of area citizens interested in forming a a Friends group to support activities and funding at this special place. They formed the “Friends of Auerfarm Scenic Reserve” (FASR) advisory committee with this Statement of Purpose and brochure to help publicize the existence of this gem.
