SANDRA “SANDI” GLICK
For 22 years, Sandra Glick had hiked a section of the Quinnipiac Trail and had made a promise to herself: as soon as she retired from ERP (Financial Management), she would find out how she could help maintain it. Fast forward to 2018. Sandi had finally retired when a devastating tornado decimated all three miles of that beloved section of trail. Instead of running away from it, that experience only strengthened her commitment. Her retirement story quickly turned into an unexpected chapter in trail stewardship.
Sandi began volunteering with us that spring. She kept her promise to herself, by January 2020, she took over as Trail Manager for her cherished section of the Quinnipiac Trail. Since then, she has logged over 356 volunteer hours! When asked what keeps Sandi coming back to CFPA, she said: “The part that keeps me here is my love of this small section of trail and the support that I receive from the CFPA staff and members.”
When Sandi isn’t maintaining her trail, you’ll find her staying busy in ways that reflect a deep commitment to family and her friends. She enjoys spending time with her four grandchildren, hiking, kayaking, traveling, and making quilts. Sandi also gives back to her community by filling the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital Toy Closets for the children that reside there, as well as serving as treasurer for the Sleeping Giant Park Association. In true Sandi fashion, she even gifted her Volunteer Spotlight Token of Appreciation – her Rich’s Ice Cream Certificate to Assistant Trails Coordinator Brooke —a small gesture that says a lot about her generous spirit!
What started with a long-standing love of a trail has grown into years of dedicated service. Sandi’s story is a wonderful reminder that our trails are cared for by people who not only love the outdoors but also believe in giving back to their communities. We’re so grateful that Sandi chose to turn her dedication into a place we can all enjoy.
