Event Description
Join CFPA for an evening of artistry, conservation, and community with New England Trail (NET) Artist-in-Residence, Samuel Swap, at the scenic Longview Cider House, nestled next to Roger’s Orchard in Southington. With sweeping views of Connecticut’s woodlands and nearby access to the NET, it’s the perfect backdrop for an inspiring summer gathering.
Sam will share his process as a wood engraver, offering a behind-the-scenes look at his printmaking practice and showcasing some of the original trail-inspired prints he’s created during his residency. Then, guests will have the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and create a simple print of their own—no experience necessary!
Enjoy refreshing hard cider (or regular cider) made on-site, mingle with fellow members of the Winslow Society, and celebrate the connection between art and the outdoors.
About the Artist: Samuel Swap is a Connecticut-based artist, printmaker, and environmentalist whose work explores the quiet beauty of wild places. As the 2025 Artist-in-Residence for the New England Trail, Sam is using the traditional technique of wood engraving to capture the essence of the landscapes, textures, and stories found along the trail. With a background in fine arts and a deep passion for conservation, Sam believes that art can spark curiosity and deepen our relationship with the natural world. His work has been exhibited throughout New England and often features forests, mountains, and everyday encounters with nature.
