SUMMARY:Frozen Heart 15 Hour Trail Race at Highlawn
DESCRIPTION:This is a simple\, low-cost\, unsupported winter ultra for runners who enjoy long days\, cold weather\, and good company. The challenge: run up to 50 miles over 15 hours (900 minutes) in classic New England winter conditions. \nRegistration includes a suggested $20 donation to the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA). Please sign up only if you truly plan to participate. \nThe event will be based at CFPA headquarters in Rockfall (Middlefield)\, CT. Runners will have access to a heated meeting room with real bathrooms\, a full kitchen\, coffee\, hot water\, and space to stash a small amount of personal gear (one tote or duffel). \nParking is very limited (15 spaces). A nearby commuter lot is available\, and carpooling is required—at least two runners per vehicle. \nAid is minimal: s’mores outside over a Solo Stove. Bring all food and supplies you’ll need. DESCRIPTION:**THE GIVING TUESDAY HIKES HAVE BEEN POSTPONED TO WEDNESDAY DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER**\nCelebrate Giving Tuesday on the trail! Join us on Wednesday for a day of fresh air\, community\, and connection on the Highlawn Trail in Rockfall! We’ll be leading guided hikes at 10 AM\, 1 PM\, with a special Moonlit Hike at 6 PM to close the day under the stars. \nThe 2.2-mile loop takes you through the beautiful Highlawn Forest\, a hidden gem nestled behind CFPA’s headquarters on the Middletown/Middlefield town line. Once open farm fields\, this second-growth forest now features conifer plantations\, mixed hardwood stands\, and red maple swamps that provide habitat for a variety of wildlife. The trails are mostly flat and gentle—perfect for young or beginner hikers—and follow old fire lanes from the property’s days as a tree farm. \nCome celebrate the spirit of Giving Tuesday by spending time in nature\, exploring Connecticut’s trails\, and supporting the work that keeps them open and thriving. \n$5 suggested donation online\, Venmo\, or cash.
