DESCRIPTION:Interested in deepening your knowledge of woodland stewardship? \nApply to become a Master Woodland Manager! \nThe Master Woodland Manager (MWM) program is a year-long cohort program that empowers woodland owners and managers across Connecticut to care for their woodlands. Through education and connections to resources and partners\, the program offers over 120 hours of field and virtual programming. \nWe are now recruiting for the 6th cohort\, beginning in late August. Project Learning Tree offers award-winning\, research-based resources that foster curiosity\, critical thinking\, and stewardship while supporting learning across a variety of settings. \nWhether you’re a classroom teacher\, informal educator\, naturalist\, camp educator\, or youth leader\, you’ll leave with fresh ideas\, practical tools\, and ready-to-use activities for your educational toolbox. \nBring a lunch and water bottle. Please wear clothing and footwear suitable for spending at least two hours outdoors on the trail.

SUMMARY:Tree ID Hike
DESCRIPTION:Its always a good time to take a closer look at the trees making up our forest! \nJoin CFPA’s Education Assistant\, Julia Sonen\, for a walk and talk focused on the trees that characterize Connecticut’s forests. Over the course of 3 miles on the Cockaponset and Pattaconk Trails\, we will introduce a variety of trees and shrubs\, discuss the ecological roles they play\, and learn some great tree facts. Both absolute beginners and those with some experience will enjoy diving a little deeper into the world of trees. \nPlease be prepared to walk 3+ miles over uneven terrain with some elevation change\, and bring water and any snacks you might need.  Sunscreen\, long sleeves\, good hiking boots and a hat are always suggested. Well-behaved and leashed dogs are welcome.

(Email abradley@ctwoodlands.org)\nTraining is 9:00 am – 4:30 pm at CFPA HQ.\nPlease arrive by 8:45am both days.\nPlease come prepared to be outside for the full duration of the course.\nDirections to parking are here: Google Directions Link\n\n\nAccidents happen. People get hurt\, sick\, or lost. The temperature drops\, the wind picks up\, and it starts to rain. Would you know what to do? Many backcountry emergencies are preventable\, and even when bad things happen\, sometimes the wrong care can make things worse. By learning a few basic skills\, you can make the difference between a good outcome and a bad one-and maybe even save a life. \nWHO IS THE WFA FOR? \nThe WFA is the perfect course for the outdoor enthusiast or trip leader who wants a basic level of first aid training for short trips with family\, friends\, and outdoor groups. It also meets the ACA guidelines. \nWHAT IS TAUGHT? \nThe WFA is 16 hours long (two days)\, and focuses on the basic skills of: Response and Assessment\, Musculoskeletal Injuries\, Environmental Emergencies\, Survival Skills\, Soft Tissue Injuries\, and Medical Emergencies. \nIS THERE AN EXAM? \nYes\, there is ongoing evaluation of practical skills\, and there are written assessments throughout the course. \nDO I GET CERTIFIED? \nYes. You will receive a SOLO WFA certification\, which is good for two years.
