SUMMARY:Mindfulness Bird-Nature Hike at Earle Park in Glastonbury
DESCRIPTION:Slow paced walk along trails with some hills. Mainly forested land along the CT River. Focus of the hike will be observing\, listening and noticing birds and nature in a relaxed enjoyable manner. This hike is more about connecting w/ nature\, appreciating birdsongs- behavior rather than just identification. An invitation to participate in a 10-15 minute sensory awareness meditation (SAM) at the start will be done. After the SAM\, we’ll walk 1-2 miles to explore several places throughout the park.    Recommendations: wear sturdy footwear\, Dress for the weather\, Bring water\, binoculars and or smart phone/Merlin app \nI’m a dog lover but no dogs on this hike. Stormy or dangerous weather cancels. \nWill meet near Gazebo. \n

SUMMARY:The Endurance Artist: An Evening with Author Jared Beasley
DESCRIPTION:Join CFPA and the CT Trailmixers for a special evening with author Jared Beasley for a slideshow\, reading\, and meet-the-author event centered on his book\, The Endurance Artist: Lazarus Lake\, the Barkley & a Race with No End. \nThe program will take place at CFPA’s Meeting Room. Light refreshments and drinks will be available. Bad weather date: Friday\, February 20. \nIn The Endurance Artist\, Beasley takes readers deep into the strange and compelling world of the Barkley Marathons—an infamous ultrarunning event created by the enigmatic Lazarus Lake. Known for its brutal terrain\, cryptic rules\, and astonishingly low finish rate\, the Barkley has become a proving ground for endurance athletes and a meditation on the limits of human perseverance. Beasley weaves together history\, firsthand reporting\, and cultural insight to explore why runners are drawn to a race that seems designed to defeat them. \nJared Beasley is an accomplished writer and journalist whose work focuses on endurance sports\, resilience\, and the psychology of extreme challenges. A longtime ultrarunning observer and participant\, Beasley brings a thoughtful\, narrative-driven approach to his storytelling\, blending athletic achievement with deeper questions about motivation\, suffering\, and meaning. \nThis evening offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from the author\, see visuals from the world of the Barkley\, and engage in conversation about one of the most fascinating endurance events on the planet.

SUMMARY:Nature Nerds Hike at West Rock Ridge State Park
DESCRIPTION:Join Renee Smith for a 6-mile loop hike that includes a portion of the Regicides Trail and features a trap rock ridge with sweeping views\, a beautiful lake\, and a visit to Judges Cave – a local landmark where Edward Whalley and William Goffe\, two of the “judges” who signed Charles II’s death warrant\, allegedly hid from Royalist bounty hunters in 1661. This is generally a moderate hike.  Portions of the Regicides Trail are moderate to difficult\, with some steep and vertiginous sections and a few scrambles. We’ll go at a moderate pace with frequent stops to enjoy our surroundings. \nRenee Smith is a nature enthusiast who hopes to spread the love! Nature Nerd Hikes are an opportunity to explore the woods while employing all our senses\, trigger curiosity\, share and seek knowledge\, and nourish our souls in the great outdoors. WFR certified. SUMMARY:Giving Tuesday Hikes at Highlawn Forest
DESCRIPTION:**THE GIVING TUESDAY HIKES HAVE BEEN POSTPONED TO WEDNESDAY DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER**\nCelebrate Giving Tuesday on the trail! Join us on Wednesday for a day of fresh air\, community\, and connection on the Highlawn Trail in Rockfall! We’ll be leading guided hikes at 10 AM\, 1 PM\, with a special Moonlit Hike at 6 PM to close the day under the stars. \nThe 2.2-mile loop takes you through the beautiful Highlawn Forest\, a hidden gem nestled behind CFPA’s headquarters on the Middletown/Middlefield town line. Once open farm fields\, this second-growth forest now features conifer plantations\, mixed hardwood stands\, and red maple swamps that provide habitat for a variety of wildlife. The trails are mostly flat and gentle—perfect for young or beginner hikers—and follow old fire lanes from the property’s days as a tree farm. \nCome celebrate the spirit of Giving Tuesday by spending time in nature\, exploring Connecticut’s trails\, and supporting the work that keeps them open and thriving. \n$5 suggested donation online\, Venmo\, or cash.

SUMMARY:Mug of Change Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Mug of Change Fundraiser – Join the Fun for Giving Tuesday!\nGet ready to make change count! CFPA’s Mug of Change fundraiser kicks off NOW for Giving Tuesday and runs through the first week of December. It’s easy\, fun\, and a great way to rally friends\, co-workers\, classmates\, or your family for Connecticut’s forests\, parks\, and trails. \nHere’s how it works: Register online to join the fun\, grab a mug at home (or several!)\, and start filling it with spare change. Collect coins at your office\, in the classroom\, congregation\, or right on your kitchen counter—it all adds up to big impact! \nDuring the first week of December\, drop off your filled mug at CFPA (or a designated location TBD) and pick up an official CFPA mug to take home. Every penny you collect helps power CFPA’s Annual Fund\, supporting trail care\, forest stewardship\, and education programs across Connecticut. \n💰 The individual or group organizer that collects the most change wins a CFPA t-shirt of their choice from our Print Your Cause store! \nRegister today and let’s see what a Mug of Change can do!
