DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exclusive Winslow Society adventure on Highlawn Trail. Herpetologist Dennis Quinn will lead the way as we discover fascinating amphibians that call this forest home. This hike is perfect for nature lovers 8 years and older—kids especially will love the wildlife discoveries! \nSituated behind CFPA’s headquarters\, the Highlawn Forest is a gem on the Middletown/Middlefield town line. The property also features an outdoor amphitheater\, pond\, and a large vernal pool with an observation platform. \nThe trail system winds through a second-growth forest\, on what were once open farm fields\, and features conifer plantations\, mixed hardwood forest\, and red maple swamps that support a diverse array of wildlife species. These flat and gentle trails are great for young or beginner hikers. \n\n2-2:30 pm: meet and greet in the CFPA Meeting Room\n2:30 – 4 pm: visit vernal pools on Highlawn Trail (less than 1 mile round trip)\n4 – 5 pm: snacks and drinks in the CFPA Meeting Room\n\nAfter the hike\, gather with us at CFPA’s Meeting Room for snacks and drinks and to share stories from the trail. \nBring your curiosity and sense of adventure for a day in nature you won’t forget!
