WalkCT Family Ramble: Flat Stanley's* CT Outdoor Adventure at Wilcox Woods

Help find Flat Stanley! Flat Stanley* has gone missing on the Connecticut portion of the New England Trail (NET) and we need your help to find him. Join us for a fun adventure as we embark on a scavenger hunt in search for clues to locate the hidden CT Flat Stanley letterbox. Find Flat Stanley as we hike the NET and have your picture taken with him to be entered into a random drawing for a Connecticut Walk Book. Fun for all ages. Bring your own letterbox stamp and journal if you have one or borrow one of ours. Wear waterproof/ comfortable shoes, and bring plenty of water and your camera (optional).

This outing is sponsored by the WalkCT program of the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA) and is appropriate for children over 5 years old (younger at parent's discretion).

Pre-registration is not necessary. Rain postpones event to August 26 at 10:00 a.m.

Directions: 

From southern Connecticut (New Haven, Waterbury), take I-91 north to Exit 20 (Country Club Road). Turn left onto Country Club Road (1.0 mile), right onto Atkins Street (0.8 mi), and left on Footit Drive.

 

From northern Connecticut (Hartford, etc.), I-91 south to Exit 20 (Country Club Road). Turn left onto Middle Street, right onto Country Club Road, right onto Atkins Street (0.8 mi), and left onto Footit Drive.

 

Park on Footit Drive or Shirley’s Court. Meet at the green sign that says “City of Middletown, Wilcox Woods, Lamentation Mountain Conservation Area.”

 


To prepare for a safe and enjoyable WalkCT Family Ramble:

  1. Be ready to begin the Ramble at the scheduled start time;
  2. Bring water, snack and your excitement;
  3. Leave pets at home or other safe place;
  4. Wear sturdy shoes; and
  5. Kids, please remember to bring your caregivers.

A program of Connecticut Forest & Park Association, WalkCT Family Rambles are designed to bring families, fun, and the outdoors together. Led by trained WalkCT Family Guides, these engaging outings are offered at trails around the state on the last weekend of every month. Because these adventures are geared specifically for families, kids and their caregivers will delight in this outdoor quest for fun together. Babies in secured backpacks are welcome.
