2010 Connecticut Forest Assessment

Shaping the Future of Connecticut's Forests

Connecticut is one of the most heavily forested states in America. Our forests clean our air and water, shelter our wildlife, sequester carbon, contribute tens of millions of dollars to our economy, and add immeasurably to the quality of our everyday lives.

And yet every day, those forests are under threat by invasive insects, diseases, and our dense, and growing human population. Because conserving a healthy forest for future generations requires action, CFPA, numerous partners, foresters, and Connecticut citizens from around the state participated in roundtable sessions in Feburary and March 2010 to develop a more comprehensive forest resource plan.

Thank you to all who particpated! The roundtable results will guide completion of Connecticut's federally mandated Forest Resource Assessment and Strategy, and provide input to Connecticut's Comprehensive Plan of Conservation and Development. Partners in this effort include:

  • The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection
  • The Connecticut Forest & Park Association
  • The University of Connecticut College of Agriculture & Natural Resources
  • Highstead
  • The Society of American Foresters, Connecticut Chapter
  • The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station
  • The Connecticut Urban Forest Council
